Day 10 and doing well

Day 10 of 14 in Managed Isolation Quarantine. We are all doing well and in good spirits. When I speak with Kiwis over the phone getting certain affairs in order, or I talk with friends back home, it seems that everyone is amazed that we haven't had a meltdown or lost our minds or some other issue by now. Over a year and a half of my kids no longer being out and about, no longer participating in competitive soccer or swim, of essentially no interactions with large groups of people, of mask wearing when out of our home has prepared them very well for this MIQ experience. Over a year and a half of entertaining each other and working with each other to stay entertained has prepared the children very well for this. For me and Randy, this is a necessary means to an end and a much needed break from the hectic pace of living we were maintaining up to the day before we left. What we've packed to keep all of us occupied seems to have been wise selections. No one is ever really bored.

I acknowledge that this may not be a smooth experience for everyone; especially people with one small child who may not fully understand what is going on and has no playmates, but for us, we are doing more than OK. Thank you to everyone for checking in on us.

I do not know what level of lockdown we will be heading into once we leave. I am anxious to explore this new land as much as I can before my first day of work, but I keep reminding myself that we are here to stay and we have all the time in the world, God willing. Delayed gratification is the story of my life, but it has paid off. We will stay steady and safe and hopefully soon New Zealand will contain the virus once again.
