Last weekend, I was so excited to take the family on a hike that I had on my list for some time. We woke up early, drove about 40 mins from our house, stopped at a very nice farmers market, then when we were about to go down the only road to that regional park, we were stopped by a set of cones and a man posted in the road informing us that it had been closed off due to a triathalon. I was so frustrated and disappointed as we turned around. I found myself about to declare that we simply scratch the day. Then we thought about the fact that we were in Aotearoa; the land of countless parks, hiking paths and scenic spots. A quick google search revealed many options within 15 mins of where we were. We decided to try Hunua Regional Park. A rigorous hike which included many steps, an impressive waterfall and beautiful foliage. I haven't given up on my plans to visit that other park, but I will say that we had a very nice day.
