This Island Girl and the Sea

Today, despite the on again off again rains, I compelled Randy to indulge me in a drive to a nearby beach. We hadn't ventured very far from our house due to restrictions but I didn't understand why I'd told myself that I couldn't still check out a beach that was a very short drive away. Well, this island girl who craves seeing, hearing and smelling the sea (a big requirement when deciding which country to move to), couldn't wait any longer.
I will admit that I did squeal in delight when I saw that turquoise water peaking out at the end of the road as I was driving to the beach.
In between heavy showers, we walked along the sand in low tide. Today was a highlight of my lockdown. This truly has brought me Zen and has rejuvenated my spirit. Aucklanders are crossing our fingers that on Monday, we will be placed under lighter restrictions. With only 15 cases of COVID today, we should be on our way. Crossing fingers and toes.
In the meantime, counting my blessings and taking a deep breath in this beautiful country.
My heart is happy and at peace in Aotearoa
